Lincoln-Way West’s boys junior varsity golf team opened its 2025 season in winning fashion Wednesday, capturing first place at the Sandburg Quad with a score of 166.
The Warriors edged host Carl Sandburg by four strokes, as the Eagles finished second at 170. Lincoln-Way Central placed third with 176, while Homewood-Flossmoor rounded out the field at 214.
Lincoln-Way West was led by medalist Colton Gagan, who carded a 40. The team showed balanced scoring behind him, with Judah Portwood posting a 41, Luke Stoner recording a 42, and Aiden Sanchez adding a 43. The consistent play across the lineup allowed West to separate itself from the competition.
The victory highlighted the Warriors’ depth, as all four scorers finished within three strokes of one another. That balance proved decisive against quality competition and provided a strong statement to begin the season.
With the win, Lincoln-Way West set a positive tone heading into the rest of its fall schedule. The Warriors will look to build on the momentum and continue developing a roster that showed early signs of both depth and reliability.
