Warriors send two to IHSA state finals

Lincoln-Way West boys swimming and diving will be represented at the IHSA Boys Swimming and Diving State Finals by two individual qualifiers following a strong performance at sectional competition.

The sectional meet determined the state field for Illinois’ top swimmers and divers, as Lincoln-Way West finished second as a team. Senior Billy Spee qualified for state in the 100-yard butterfly, while senior John Kucala advanced in one-meter diving.

Spee won the sectional title in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.33 seconds to secure his state berth. He also set a new school record in the 100 freestyle at 48.22 seconds and contributed to a record-setting 400 freestyle relay alongside Colin Stack, Luke Medel and Jack Casey.

Kucala earned a third-place finish in one-meter diving with a score of 430.60 points to qualify among the state’s top divers.

Additional sectional medalists included Jack Casey placing second in the 500 freestyle (4:54.69), Colin Stack finishing second in the 100 backstroke (56.52), and Ethan Ferrucci taking third in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.82). Lincoln-Way West also earned runner-up finishes in the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.
