Lincoln-Way West boys wrestling saw its team season come to an end with a hard-fought 36–28 loss to Edwardsville in the IHSA Class 3A Dual Team Sectional.
The sectional dual took place Feb. 5 at Mahomet-Seymour High School, where the Warriors traded momentum with the Tigers throughout a tightly contested matchup that featured multiple lead changes and high-level performances across the lineup.
After Edwardsville jumped out to an early lead, Lincoln-Way West responded with three straight victories to tie the dual at 13-13. Carter DiBenedetto sparked the rally with a pin at 126 pounds, followed by wins from Brady Glynn at 132 and Shane Stream at 138. The Warriors continued to battle, exchanging pins at the middle weights and eventually taking a 28-22 advantage late in the dual after victories by Max Herman at 165 pounds and Jonathan Wilkey at 175.
Edwardsville closed the match by winning the final three bouts, but Lincoln-Way West remained competitive until the final whistle, pushing a ranked opponent deep into the final weights.
The Warriors’ performance reflected the depth, toughness, and consistency of a program that continues to compete at a high level in postseason play.
