Lincoln-Way West Warriors fall short in hard-fought defensive battle against Joliet Catholic Hilltoppers, 58-46.
The game took place on Saturday, Feb. 14, at Joliet Catholic Academy.
Lincoln-Way West showed resilience after a difficult opening stretch, responding to Joliet Catholic’s early surge by settling in and steadily climbing back into the game. The Warriors tightened their defensive approach, cutting the deficit by halftime and pushing within striking distance in the third quarter as they found a better rhythm on both ends. Although they continued to compete, the Warriors struggled to fully contain the Hilltoppers’ disciplined offense down the stretch and couldn’t close the gap, ultimately finishing with just 46 points as their late possessions came up empty.
Joliet Catholic sealed the win with a 12‑point margin, but Lincoln-Way West’s ability to regroup after the early breakdown and limit clean looks for long stretches showed meaningful progress for a team that has battled defensive inconsistency throughout the season. Even in defeat, the Warriors demonstrated poise, toughness, and signs of growth they can build on moving forward.
Looking ahead, Lincoln-Way West will remain at home to host Joliet Central in an Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State tournament basketball game on Feb. 23. The Warriors will enter that contest with an overall record of 14-17.
The last time these teams met, Lincoln-Way West defeated Joliet Central 53-46 on Nov. 28, 2025.
