Lincoln-Way West earned another key conference water polo victory with a 12–6 win over Sandburg.
The victory marks the Warriors’ fifth win of the season and another important result in conference play. The game took place on March 26, at Lincoln-Way West High School, according to MaxPreps.
West used steady execution on both ends to outlast Sandburg, with John Kucala leading the Warriors’ offense with three goals and a balanced supporting effort helping push the margin to a comfortable 12–6 finish. The Warriors generated enough high‑percentage chances to stay in front throughout the night, and their defensive pressure limited Sandburg’s ability to answer as West secured its fifth win of the season and another important conference result.
Next, the Warriors shift into non-conference play with a pair of neutral-site matchups on Saturday, April 4. West opens the morning against Conant at 10 a.m. before returning to the pool at noon to face Deerfield, giving the Warriors a valuable doubleheader opportunity to test their depth and maintain momentum as they push toward the heart of the schedule. The Conant matchup marks the first recorded meeting between the programs on MaxPreps, adding a layer of intrigue to the morning contest.
West’s second opponent, Deerfield, is more familiar: the Warriors last faced Deerfield on April 5, 2025, earning a decisive 16–3 non-conference win at a neutral site. With both opponents presenting different stylistic challenges, West enters the weekend looking to extend its strong start and build on the efficiency and composure shown in their recent conference victory.
Lincoln Way West serves grades 9 through 12 with an enrollment of 1,941 students during the 2019-2020 school year and is located in New Lenox and Will County. Out of these students, grade distribution was as follows: grade 9 had 36.3 percent; grade 10 had 39.4 percent; grade 11 had 36.1 percent; and grade 12 had 37 percent—the highest concentration being in grade 10 with 39.4 percent—according to the Illinois Report Card. The student body was composed of approximately 81.8 percent white students, 1.8 percent black students, 12.7 percent Hispanic students, and one percent Asian students during that period.
