Warriors unable to slow Metea Valley in 17–5 non-conference loss

0Comments

Lincoln-Way West lost a non-conference girls water polo game to Metea Valley, 17-5.

The game was played on March 12 at Lincoln-Way West High School.

Lincoln-Way West leaned on its core players Thursday night, with Ellie Trench attacking the net for three goals and Isabella Shenberger contributing two more. In the cage, Marlo Etzcorn battled throughout, turning away five shots to steady the Warriors’ defense against Metea Valley’s relentless pressure. Metea Valley’s early pressure and transition speed created a deficit the Warriors couldn’t close as the Mustangs steadily built their lead.

The Warriors’ varsity roster also includes Olivya Agema (2026), Natalie Briese (2026), Annabelle Frieh (2027), Melanie Schulz (2026), and Olivia Senesac (2026), according to Lincoln-Way West Athletics.

Lincoln-Way West returns to action Saturday, March 14, when the Warriors travel for an 8 a.m. matchup against Hinsdale Central in a tournament setting, giving the team a quick turnaround and an opportunity to reset after Thursday’s loss. The early start offers a chance for West to reestablish its defensive structure and generate more consistent offensive looks as the roster continues to develop chemistry. Both Lincoln-Way West and Hinsdale Central enter Saturday’s matchup with identical 1-1 records and a .500 winning percentage, setting the stage for an evenly balanced contest. The Warriors have split their first two games, going 1-0 on the road and 0-1 at home while scoring 14 goals and allowing 23. Hinsdale Central has also shown balance, winning once at home and dropping another, with 22 goals scored and 17 conceded.

Those numbers highlight contrasting strengths; West is looking to tighten its defense while the Red Devils aim to sustain their offensive output, adding intrigue to their upcoming meeting. The Warriors and Hinsdale Central last met on April 10, 2025, when Lincoln-Way West earned an 8-6 home non-conference win against the Red Devils.
