Andrew routed Thornwood, 53-6, in its Aug. 30 season opener. The Thunderbolts led 33-0 at halftime.
Against Thornwood, Running backs Cam Maniatis (42, 3, 5), Brady Tanquilut (22, 10) and Luis Cabral (1) and quarterback Drew Silvia (4) combined for seven touchdowns on the ground. Silvia also passed to Tanquilut for an eighth.
Andrew started 2023 3-1– including a season-opening, 49-6 victory over Thornwood– but lost six games in a row to end the season, including a 31-23 Week 9 loss to the Warriors.
Andrew is Lincoln-Way West’s most prolific opponent in football program history, with 14 meetings between the teams since 2009. The Warriors are 10-4 all-time vs. Andrew, outscoring them by a combined score of 333-257.
Lincoln-Way West beat Andrew six times in a row between 2013 and 2018. But the Thunderbolts have won two of their last four meetings with the Warriors, including a 34-10 win in 2022 and a 17-6 victory in 2019.
Andrew offensive lineman Michael McDonough (6 ‘3, 275) is the second University of Illinois commitment the Warriors will face this season, after Andre Lovett of Eisenhower. McDonough picked the Illini over Boston College, Colorado, Purdue, Ball State and Akron.
Andrew junior offensive guard Jake Palucki (6 ‘5 270) has scholarship offers from Toledo, Western Michigan and Ball State.
Andrew senior wide receiver Dionte Thigpen (6’3 160) is a track star and three year starter who has a scholarship offer from Grand Valley State.
Andrew’s sophomores beat Thornwood in Week 1, 14-12.
Andrew H.S. opened in 1977, named for Victor J. Andrew, the founder of telecommunications equipment maker Andrew Corporation, which moved from Chicago’s Grand Crossing neighborhood to Orland Park in 1948, when its population was 631. The village had 58,703 people in the 2020 U.S. Census. Victor J. Andrews died in 1971 at age 69.
