Game Notes
Davis-Foltz is a three-year starter at quarterback for Champaign Centennial who threw for 1,766 yards and 24 touchdowns while running for 574 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior.
Champaign Centennial Head Coach Kyle Jackson went 0-9 in his first season (2019), but he has since led Champaign Centennial to the IHSA playoffs three years in a row.
Champaign Centennial assistant coach Jeff Hasenstab is a Belleville West H.S. graduate who played defensive tackle for the University of Illinois from 1990-1994. He was a Fighting Illini teammate of future NFL veterans Simeon Rice (Mt. Carmel) and John Holecek (Marian Catholic). Holecek later coached Loyola Academy’s football team for 17 years, winning three state titles. Hasenstab was head coach at Champaign Central from 2001-04, where his son, David, is a senior tight end.
Champaign Centennial won the state 3A boys basketball title in 2008, going 32-1, led by guards James Kinney (San Jose State) and Rayvonte Rice (Drake/University of Illinois).
Rice, who currently plays for the Liaoning Flying Leopards of the Chinese Basketball Association, played football for Centennial on the same team as his cousin, future Illini and Detroit Lion running back Mikel Leshoure.
The Chargers went 8-4 in Leshoure’s junior year, falling in the IHSA 6A Quarterfinals to Oak Forest, 40-7. LeShoure managed 121 yards rushing on 18 attempts. He ran for 2,451 yards his junior season.
