The Lincoln-Way West (LWW) varsity softball team experienced a narrow defeat against Andrew High School, with a final score of 4-3 in nine innings on Monday afternoon. This result brought their overall record to 16-8 and 5-5 in the Southwest Suburban Conference (SWSC).
According to the game details, the Warriors engaged in a tense matchup at home but ultimately fell short as Andrew secured the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning. Senior pitcher Abby Brueggmann delivered a commendable performance, pitching for 8.2 innings, allowing only two earned runs, and striking out nine batters.
Offensively, Reese Forsythe led LWW by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a run scored, a hit-by-pitch, and two stolen bases. Reese Rourke contributed with a 2-for-4 effort that included a double, a run scored, and a stolen base. Molly Finn also had an impressive showing at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a walk.
Despite this setback, LWW remains competitive within the SWSC standings. They will aim to recover on Wednesday when they host Lincoln-Way Central. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., as Lincoln-Way West seeks to balance their conference record heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
