Warriors top Knights 6-4 in crosstown baseball clash

Lincoln-Way West narrowly defeated crosstown rival Lincoln-Way Central 6-4 in a varsity baseball game on Friday afternoon.

According to the game summary, the Warriors established an early lead by scoring three runs in the first inning. Jackson Mansker initiated the scoring with an RBI double, and two additional runs were scored on a wild pitch. Carson Paulas contributed with a triple in the second inning, driving in another run and extending West's lead to 4-2.

West’s pitching staff delivered a solid performance. Adam Gerl secured the win, allowing two hits and one earned run over 2 2/3 innings. Anthony Vita started for West, pitching 2 1/3 innings and conceding two runs on five hits. Ben Joynt closed out the game to earn the save.

Lincoln-Way Central’s Luke Mensik was charged with the loss after surrendering six runs—only two of which were earned—over 4 2/3 innings while striking out seven batters. Paulas led West offensively, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Conor Essenburg added to West's efforts by stealing three bases as part of their total four steals and executing one double play.

Shawn Mowry stood out for the Knights with two RBIs and a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Lincoln-Way West is scheduled to visit Herscher on Monday for its next matchup.
