The Lincoln-Way West varsity baseball team demonstrated resilience but ultimately fell short in a 4-1 loss to the Stagg Chargers on Saturday at Stagg High School.

According to the game report, the Warriors struggled to overcome a challenging fifth inning during which Stagg scored three runs due to a passed ball and an error. Despite this setback, Lincoln-Way West mounted a late-game effort.

Conor Essenburg provided a highlight for the Warriors with a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the seventh inning, accounting for Lincoln-Way West’s only run.

On the pitching front, Anthony Vita delivered a solid performance, pitching four innings and allowing two runs (one earned), with three hits and four strikeouts. Offensively, Essenburg led the team with one RBI while Ian Hazelip contributed two hits in four at-bats.

Although Stagg’s Kavois secured the win with five and two-thirds innings of two-hit, shutout ball, the Warriors maintained pressure throughout the game. Lincoln-Way West aims to regroup and build on their efforts in upcoming contests.
