Lincoln-Way West High School's baseball team concluded a successful 2025 season with a 28-8 overall record and an 11-5 standing in the Southwest Suburban Conference. Under the leadership of head coach Jake Zajc, the Warriors demonstrated a strong combination of talent, leadership, and depth.
According to the team's performance records, senior Conor Essenburg emerged as a standout player, earning Southwest Suburban Conference Athlete of the Year honors along with All-Region Player of the Year recognition. Essenburg's exceptional two-way performance included a .464 batting average, 10 home runs, 49 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases. On the pitching mound, he achieved a 5-0 record with a 0.94 ERA and recorded an impressive 94 strikeouts in 44.2 innings. Essenburg is committed to the University of Kentucky and is projected as an early Major League Baseball Draft pick.
The Warriors' roster featured several other key contributors who received All-Conference honors: Michael Pettit (committed to Notre Dame), Lucas Acevedo (University of Illinois Chicago), and Anthony Vita (Drury University). Pettit was effective both as a left-handed pitcher and designated hitter, achieving a .293 batting average with 23 RBIs and striking out 53 batters in 46.2 innings pitched. Acevedo maintained a .400 batting average while playing shortstop and also contributed on the mound. Vita served as a reliable left-handed starter and closer, boasting a 2.00 ERA alongside his .291 batting average.
Junior players Jackson Mansker at third base and outfielder Carson Paulas also made significant contributions to the team’s success. Mansker's performance included hitting 13 doubles and driving in 35 RBIs, while Paulas combined a .386 batting average with 12 stolen bases and solid defensive play.
Lincoln-Way West's campaign for the year highlighted their deep and versatile lineup, positioning them for continued success in future seasons.
