Game Notes:
This is Lincoln-Way West’s first-ever meeting with Eisenhower.
Since the school’s opening in 2009, Lincoln-Way West is 10-4 in football season openers, outscoring its Week 1 opponents by a combined 399-225.
The Warriors have opened on the road in seven of the program’s first 14 seasons, with an opening week road record of 5-2.
Eisenhower went 7-4 in 2023 and was 5-2 in the South Suburban-Red Conference.
The Cardinals made the IHSA 6A Playoffs, defeating Dunlap 42-41 in double overtime in the first round, then falling to Kankakee 49-35 in the second round. The Cardinals 2023 playoff win over Dunlap was its first playoff win since 2015.
Eisenhower is led by Illinois commitment Andre Lovett, a 6’0, 175 pound safety/ wide receiver. He had 78 tackles in 2023, including 25 TFL. On offense, Lovett had 243 receiving yards, 100 rushing yards and scored four touchdowns.
Lovett, ranked the 24th best player in Illinois by 24/7 Sports, picked the University of Illinois over Iowa, Kansas State, Louisville, Michigan State, Missouri, Purdue, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.
Eisenhower sophomore DE Sincere Harris has scholarship offers from Ball State, Miami (OH) and Central Michigan.
Coach Vincent Holmes of Riverdale is in his first year, hired a week before practice began on Aug. 12.
Holmes has spent 18 years as a Cardinals assistant, including under Travis Moore, who spent 12 years coaching Eisenhower before leaving to join Northern Illinois as an assistant in 2019.
