Lincoln-Way West secured a 2-1 victory over Oak Forest on Saturday with a late push in the sixth inning.
According to the game report, the match was tied at 1-1 when Peyton Globke singled to drive in the go-ahead run. Michael Pettit also contributed with an RBI groundout earlier in the inning to help the Warriors regain the lead.
Oak Forest initially took the lead in the opening inning, as Ashton Janowski singled to score Justin Gibbs. However, Lincoln-Way West pitchers maintained their composure for the remainder of the game, with starter Anthony Vita earning the win. The left-hander allowed one run on six hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking two. Vince Weber took the loss for Oak Forest, giving up two runs on five hits across six innings with five strikeouts.
Offensively, Globke led Lincoln-Way West, finishing 1-for-3 with an RBI. Lucas Acevedo, Quinten Lange, Conor Essenburg, Vita and Globke each tallied one hit. Pettit recorded eight defensive plays as the Warriors committed no errors.
Janowski went 2-for-3 with an RBI to pace the Bengals, while Gibbs added two hits. Oak Forest turned one double play and was also flawless defensively, with Danny Chopp recording five fielding chances.
Lincoln-Way West is set to host Bradley-Bourbonnais on Monday.
