Lincoln-Way West High School's baseball team overcame an early 5-0 deficit to defeat Oswego East 12-6 in a road game on Saturday.
Oswego East initially dominated the game, scoring five runs in the second inning. A two-run single by Battista and a three-run home run by Tucker contributed to their early lead. The Wolves extended their advantage to 6-0 with a sacrifice fly by Villacci in the third inning.
According to the game report, Lincoln-Way West responded promptly with four runs in the third inning. Conor Essenburg hit a two-run homer, Quinten Lange drove in a run with a lineout, and Michael Pettit added an RBI single.
The Warriors took the lead in the fourth inning by scoring three more runs. Essenburg walked in a run, Ian Hazelip hit an RBI single, and Anthony Vita delivered a sacrifice fly, putting Lincoln-Way West ahead 7-6.
The decisive moment came in the seventh inning when Lincoln-Way West scored five additional runs. Carson Paulas singled in a run, Lucas Acevedo was hit by a pitch with bases loaded, Essenburg added another run with a sacrifice fly, Hazelip drove in yet another run with a single, and Matt Oberts grounded out to score the final run.
Reliever Alex Macias secured the win for Lincoln-Way West by pitching two scoreless innings. Hazelip led his team with three hits during the game while the Warriors managed to draw ten walks from their opponents. Lincoln-Way West is scheduled to host Plainfield North on Monday.
