Lincoln-Way West head coach Jodi Frigo is preparing for the upcoming volleyball season with optimism, as most of her team members are returning. Following a successful campaign that saw them finish fifth in the state, Frigo's team is motivated to improve further.
"This team is driven to improve and push forward," Frigo said. "They're not just teammates; they're a strong group of friends who work well together."
Frigo's passion for volleyball began during her time at Mother McAuley, an Illinois high school known for its volleyball prowess. Her experiences there, including winning a state championship as a freshman and reaching the finals as a senior, inspired her to pursue coaching. "I wanted to give back and instill the same values in my program that helped me succeed," she said.
Several key players are expected to lead the Warriors this season. Andrew Flores, a four-year varsity player, comes from a family with a strong volleyball tradition and serves as a vocal leader. Drew Kregul is noted as a dominant middle blocker and key leader. Colin Dargan returns following in the footsteps of his two successful older brothers. Additionally, Dain Mason, a transfer from Oak Forest High School, is anticipated to make an impact alongside two standout freshmen expected to contribute immediately.
Frigo emphasizes creating a family atmosphere within the team. She encourages players to "live in the moment" and build strong bonds through various activities such as breakfasts, mentoring younger players, and off-court outings like virtual reality games and go-karting. "Building friendships off the court makes us stronger on it," Frigo said.
With leadership, experience, and chemistry in place, the Warriors appear poised for another strong season.
