Lincoln-Way boys varsity lacrosse team secured a decisive 11-2 victory over St. Rita on Friday night, demonstrating a comprehensive team effort both offensively and defensively.
According to the game report, the offense initiated with strength and sustained pressure throughout, with six different players scoring. This balanced attack kept St. Rita on the defensive and underscored Lincoln-Way's depth, discipline, and chemistry.
On defense, Logan Lahey led with a notable performance that effectively curtailed the Mustangs' offensive attempts. His intensity, positioning, and awareness were pivotal in anchoring a defensive unit that conceded only two goals during the match.
Possession was crucial in Lincoln-Way’s dominance. Faceoff specialist Logan Yerkey won 15 of 16 draws at the X position, providing the Griffins with consistent ball control and minimizing St. Rita’s offensive chances.
Head coach Jackson praised his team after the win for their execution and unity displayed across all four quarters. "This was a complete team win," Jackson said. "Our offense moved the ball well and finished plays, our defense stayed disciplined, and Yerkey gave us control at the faceoff X. We’re building momentum and doing it the right way."
The victory marks Lincoln-Way's first win of the season at 1-0, setting a positive tone for upcoming games. With contributions from across the roster and a strong team identity forming early on, the Griffins seem poised for a competitive season ahead. Lincoln-Way is set to return to action next week as they aim to build on this performance.
