Lincoln-Way West boys' volleyball team continued its strong start to the season with a 25-22, 25-15 victory over visiting Plainfield East on Wednesday night, improving their record to 2-0 overall.
According to the match report, the Warriors demonstrated energy and focus, overcoming a close first set before dominating the second. Senior outside hitter Hunter Vedder led all scorers with 10 kills, scoring both at the net and from the back row. Colin Dargan and Drew Kregul each contributed seven kills, while Mason Thompson added five and David Neylon chipped in one. The varied offensive approach made it challenging for the Bengals to adjust defensively.
Running the offense was senior setter Ryne Ferree, who recorded 25 assists and led the team with four service aces. Ferree kept Plainfield East off balance by varying his sets and exploiting weak spots in their formation. Defensively, senior libero Andrew Flores anchored the team with 17 digs, providing steady coverage in the back row. Flores’ hustle and court awareness facilitated quick transitions and sustained rallies.
Head coach Jodi Frigo praised her team's teamwork and discipline. "We’ve got a deep group that plays with confidence," Frigo said. "They trust each other and execute the game plan."
With two solid wins to open the season, Lincoln-Way West now heads to the Belleville East Invitational this weekend, where they will face some of the state’s top talent. Early results suggest that the Warriors possess both skill and chemistry necessary for a successful spring campaign.
