Lincoln-Way West's boys' water polo team secured a narrow 11-10 victory over Buffalo Grove on Saturday, April 5, improving its season record to 10-5.
According to the team's head coach, Nick Schaub, the Warriors endured a back-and-forth contest and managed to hold on late to edge Buffalo Grove in a tight finish. The win concluded a strong weekend performance for Lincoln-Way West, which also defeated Deerfield 16-3 earlier in the day. "Our guys showed a lot of grit in the second game," Schaub said. "Buffalo Grove came out strong, but we stayed composed and found a way to close it out."
The pair of victories marks a momentum boost for the Warriors as they enter the second half of the season. Lincoln-Way West's offense was prominent in both matchups, combining for 27 goals, while their defense delivered key stops when necessary. Seniors led with strong communication in the pool, while underclassmen contributed solid minutes off the bench. The team's conditioning and chemistry were evident in the final quarters of both contests.
Schaub said that these wins are instrumental in building confidence within the team. "We’re playing better water polo each week," he said.
