The Warriors answered quickly after Sandburg took an early lead with a sacrifice fly by Charlie Snoreck in the first inning. Michael Pettit’s clutch single in the third tied the game, setting the stage for Lincoln-Way West’s takeover.
In the fourth, the Warriors capitalized on a Sandburg miscue, scoring two runs on an error. Lucas Acevedo followed with a key RBI single, giving Lincoln-Way West a commanding 4-1 advantage that held the rest of the way.
Acevedo was outstanding on the mound, limiting Sandburg to three hits and one run over six innings, striking out two and walking two. Anthony Vita closed the door to earn the save. Sandburg’s Peter Jurcenko took the loss.
Nolan Ballantine led the offense with two RBIs. Jackson Mansker, Acevedo, Carson Paulas, Conor Essenburg, Vita, Pettit and Peyton Globke all contributed hits. Essenburg added two stolen bases to spark the attack.
Despite a few hits from Dom Palumbo, AJ Macak and Quinn Durkin, Sandburg could not generate enough offense against West’s dominant pitching.
Lincoln-Way West looks to stay hot Saturday when they host Oak Forest.
